With reference to the Note from this Department
to the French Ambassador of the 12th instant, a copy
of which was forwarded to the Colonial Office on
the 13th instant, and to previous correspondence
relative to the treatment of Dr. A.Gaston on his
Journey from China to France, I am directed by
Earl Curzon of Kedleston to transmit to you,
herewith, a further Note which has been received
from the French Chargé d'Affaires on this subject.
2. I am to ask that further investigations
may be made into the case of Dr. Gaston, as request- ed in the last paragraph of Monsieur de Fleuriau's
Note.
3. A similar letter has been addressed to the
Admiralty.
